HOME ADDITIONS AND ACCESSORY STRUCTURES

An addition is any construction added to your primary building that has a roof or has the structural design that could hold a roof. Additions to your home require both a development permit and building permit. Additions that involve mechanical changes also require electrical, HVAC, plumbing and gas permits.

Accessory structures that require permits include Detached garages, sheds, carports, and gazebos. Permits may not be required when a structure is less than 10 square meters, not attached to a house or any other building, not connected to electricity, plumbing or gas lines.

DECKS AND FENCES

Building a Deck in your yard is a great way to utilize your outdoor space. Often times a Development Permit and a Building Permit will be required, depending on the size, height and placement of your deck. We have the expertise to help you obtain the necessary approvals, so you can enjoy your yard without any enforcement issues. A Site Plan and a Design Drawing will be required to complete the permit process, and we have the personnel to ensure that your project is permitted without any hiccups.

Fences or private screens higher than what’s allowed in your area’s zoning regulations require a development permit. Two factors that need to be considered when building a fence or privacy screen are height and location. Both are regulated by the zoning bylaw. If you are looking for a little more privacy in your backyard, we will be able to help make sure your fence or screen complies with the necessary rules in your area.
